That is embarassing for the U.S. How can you boo someone who has done so much for sports, golf, and children? Cal and Stanford are two of the greatest universities in the world. The rivalry goes back over 100 years. If Tiger didn't appreciate the intensity of the rivalry then he didn't learn much in his TWO years at Stanford (he dropped out). People that planned this event are the ones to blame, they should have known what would happen. I am sure Tiger will live.

As TERRIBLEARTICLE posted, Tiger is one of the most dominant athletes in any sport. As for his mental toughness, apparently that lame poster never read the oft repeated stories about when Tiger was a kid and his father would drop a bag just as Tiger was starting his downswing. His dad would make him take the result of that shot, and he quickly learned to handle it. Somehow I think he could handle swearing morons. Actually Tiger is one golfer who could probably even handle a "defense" like in that old beer ad.

So who gives a s**t if Tiger was booed? Who is he, the GD Savior or something? He's a Stanford grad -- of course Cal would boo him. If a UNC grad spoke at a Duke game he'd get booed, too. Ditto a Michigan grad at Ohio State and on and on and on. Just because 99.9% of the sports media has its head up Tiger's a** doesn't mean we all should do the same.

I wholeheartedly agree. Tiger's attitude lately on the course, with his unsportsmanlike behavior of throwing golf clubs, pounding them into the teebox and shouting obscenities is likely to become a bigger problem for him. He is a spoiled kid, destroyed by his wealth and fame, who thinks and behaves like he is entitled to do as he pleases. Just because he is a phenomenal athlete does not negate the fact that he should behave in a respectable manner on the golf course. I think he got a little taste of the fact that people are getting tired of him because he is not a charming young man anymore.

Other posters correctly pointed out why some Cal fans booed him: he was wearing Stanford red and so was as good a target as any other red out there. Doesn't justify it but can explain it. Nobody is loved 100% but you don't hate somebody for being successful and look for an opportunity to stick it to him or her which is exactly what you did here. I'm certain some of Cal fans will cheer if they were watching golf and Tiger made an unbelievably nifty play.

Tiger Woods didn't graduate from Stanford. He's smart enough to have graduated, but he took the money and ran when the pro golf tour beckoned. Jack Nicklaus did the same thing at Ohio State. I've never heard Tiger pay tribute to Stanford or suggest he was going back there some day to finish his education.

I suspect the people there resented Tiger's being treated as an icon on campus. Other great athletes have stuck it out for the full four years.

Why Standford would have a drop-out be their honorary coach is bewildering. There have been many famous athletes, scientists, and politicians who bring "honor" to Stanford that actually graduated. Why not choose one of them? I was at the game and heard Tiger taunt the UC Berkeley fans when he proclaimed "The second half is ours!" at the end of his acceptance speech. No one booed until then. From what I could tell, there is excessive tailgate partying that starts early in the day and by kickoff, the crowd (UC Berkeley and Stanford) has lost all civility. Tiger threw a match on the gasoline.

For any person attending a game at Stanford to "boo" an honored guest is despicable. Makes no difference if it is Tiger, the Pope, or Joe Camel!
