NY Post Tiger Woods coverage bigger than 9/11?

I think we've officially reached a tipping point in the Tiger Woods saga. Today's big news, via Newsday's Neil Best on Twitter, is the fact that the New York Post has devoted 16 consecutive front-page covers to Woods, which is three short of their record, when they rolled out 19 straight covers on the 9/11 attacks. So Tiger hasn't left the house in three weeks, and hes still breaking records? Impressive. But to the larger point: A big portion of the media coverage of Tiger Woods now includes the media coverage of Tiger Woods. Finally, someone has invented the perpetual motion machine. This story may never end!

Two things on Best's Twitter note: The "laurel and hearty handshake" line is evidently some reference to the 1920s comedy team, but I'm not sure what Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy have to do with Tiger Woods. (Other than the line "Here's another fine mess you've gotten us into."). And, as New York Magazine points out, it's a bit ironic that Best is forced to Twitter us the news due to Newsday's subscription firewall. Another example of old, creaky traditional media thinking. Sports by Brooks has more thoughts on that subject today.

Today's Post story quotes "a source close to Woods' camp" saying that Woods "is on the edge."

The shamed golfer is terrified that his wife is going to divorce him over his sexcapades and make his life miserable by moving to Sweden with their two young kids, a source close to Woods' camp told The Post yesterday.
"He's only just coping -- he's on the edge," the well-placed source said. "He sees everything coming crashing down around him. His career, his family."

Not sure if that even really qualifies as news. But it gets a NY Post cover. Stay tuned tomorrow to see if the streak continues! I haven't been this excited since Pete Rose chased DiMaggio.

Get a life, there is more important things going on in this world, that everyone is stooping to the National Enquirer. This is about some guy cheating on his wife & it is only there business. You guys need to report on all wars, deficits & non partisian stuff going on in politics that really effect all of Americans. Yet you only want to talk about a guy that bonks women. It is pathetic & shows why nobody trusts the media these days.

The "laurel and hearty handshake" is a line from "Blazing Saddles", where the town elders offered the new sheriff a laurel wreath and a handshake, with the intent being a play on L&H (who made a career out of word play).

Well great! After years of slow progress, we've finally managed to fully embrace British Tabloid media as the new US standard.

When you sit on top and act as arrogant as Tiger then youhave to take it when you ****up. I think the coverage that should inspire someone is the DIVORCE! This is a woman who has the intellegence, selfesteme and guts to do what every woman whose husband cheats should do. This attitude that I can do whatever I want to just so I can pay for it has got to stop, for the good and respect for Marriage. He has a Billion $ so she takes half and gets Support for herself and the children for twenty years. maybe that would even make the likes of you to sit up and take notice.

Hmmm ... America's expansive health care restructure is now apparently in the hands of 60 politicians; we have men and women literally dealing with life and death situations on the front lines of war every day; unemployment, homelessness, and hunger right here in the land of the free and home of the brave; and what topic is at the forefront of our thoughts? Tiger Woods, of course! What is he doing or thinking today?? Is his wife going to leave him or not?? Seriously, folks, let's get things back in perspective and our noses out of something that is ultimately a personal matter for one family, not the entire world, to work out.

Greg Rodich learn how to spell you look ignorant when you can't use their/there and effect/affect correctly. This ignorance only undermines the point you try to make.

haha...this might be the only article in the world I will actually admit this about...but who knew news about news could actually come off as real news. Having a few friends in my life that play in the NFL, have music CD's, and have had their share in the light....I have never understood people's ability to get caught up in celeb drama and gossip. Yet, I find myself glued to each story about Tigers....what was it called?...oh yes, sexcapades. It is so amazing how people ooogled over him, the media, the fans, the market, society, and we know nothing about him....nothing. Does he have a crooked "winky", does he teach his kids valuable lessons, does he genuinely appreciate his blessings, does he care about anybody but himself....nobody really knows yet everybody trips over him and others like him....don't get it. Never have, never will.

But as far as the circus him and his pervish ways have created....all news is good news. Run the story, beat the crap out of it, run it until you are talking about the most random corners of where this story could even end up...do news about the news, do news about the news that is about the news....yes yes, do it all.

This guy used a fake image to hoard millions from people when it was all a scam. To do this to his wife, his kids, and to take advantage of these bimbos that have way more plastic surgery than witts, morals, or respect for themselves or other people's marriage.....I can't get enough of seeing the consequences of his stupidity. I'll be laughing every sentance of every article, and I hope the untouchable Tiger cries every mile his kids are traveling back to Sweden.

For once in my life....THANK YOU MEDIA!!

on elin leaving to sweden with the 2 kids; it's looking pretty clear that elin is considering divorce. if tiger had been guilty of an indiscretion, that's one thing. but, as many as at least 14 (and counting) ??? no one would fault her for pulling the plug on him. however, tiger should have no problem in court keeping her from leaving the country with his kids. that won't fly anywhere in this country.

John - You could stand to learn proper punctuation yourself.

GET A LIFE!!!

I detest this attitude. Why does she deserve half of what he has earned? This is so typical of the world today. "I did nothing but because I'm married to/the child of/was told I'm special enough I deserve everything I think I do even if I did nothing to earn it." No doubt he should support the kids and she should get something, but half? Ridiculous. No wonder nothing gets done. 10% do everything and the other 90% want credit for showing up. Tiger's only mistake was getting married...or as I like to think it should be called "Government sanctioned contracts assuring redistribution of wealth to those who didn't earn it when voided". Hey "very old man" ,maybe you should spend less time on workman's comp, less time praying to your fictional god and get back to greeting at Walmart. If you're from the Greatest Generation, you should be ashamed of yourself. You douche.

Poor Dog,
Boy do you ever have a lot to learn, Not only will she get half of what he has, She will get the Home in Sweden. She will give him visitation in Sweden and even alternate holidays in the States. But this agreement will have a clause that if he steps out of line at all, he will lose the kids completely. These Lawyers today will put such a string on him that he will lose his desire to screw arround.

Who says you cannot buy happiness? Tiger did, 15 and counting..., I think!

No one's going to be laughing if Tiger hurts himself or someone else because of all this media coverage. Pushing him to the edge is not "exciting". He made a HUGE mistake and now he's trying to recover from it. Leave him alone for his sake, his kids' sake, and his wife's.

Be a human and think ahead. Stop now before you cause trouble.

If you had any religion left in your soul regardless of what religion you might have started out, you would ask the monitor to remove your post. This lady who has never worked is entitled to be maintained in the manner in which she and her children have become accustomed too. You should start thinking about getting out of your relationship NOW before you become evolved in finding out just what the Divorce laws in this Country can do to you. If you say "I don't have anything" then you will still have to support your wife and Children.
Your comments seam to flow in the direction that you are considering just what you might be facing. Sorry about that but I know that it doesn't bother me nor does it effect me. I have never cheated on my wife nor am I likely too.

All right...you asked for it...

>If you had any religion left in your soul regardless of what >religion you might have started out, you would ask the monitor to >remove your post.
Soul? Serious, its right next to my magic organ and just about as real too. As to religion, I try to think for myself. Maybe someday you can try too!

>This lady who has never worked is entitled to be maintained in the >manner in which she and her children have become accustomed too.
Hmmm...Lets see she was a golf pro's nanny (Jesper Parnevik) and then she was a bikini model. Yes a swedish bikini model. I'm guessing she's perfectly capable of supporting herself.

>You should start thinking about getting out of your relationship >NOW before you become evolved in finding out just what the Divorce >laws in this Country can do to you. If you say "I don't have >anything" then you will still have to support your wife and >Children.
You know why divorce is expensive? Its worth it. And by the way its called a vasectomy or a rubber...if only your dad had gotten either one.

>Your comments seam to flow in the direction that you are >considering just what you might be facing. Sorry about that but I >know that it doesn't bother me nor does it effect me.
Why are you apologizing if it doesn't bother you? Ass. Don't worry though, your apology isn't necessary for this...maybe you could apologize to humanity for allowing your genes to be passed on.

>I have never cheated on my wife nor am I likely too.
Because you are ugly and poor. You should bow down and pray to your unanswering imaginary god and thank him for sex you get once a year on your birthday. By the way, yes, BJs are awesome.

You are still a douche.

What's the big deal? Why would Tiger be so crazy about losing a wife and kids? Go out and get replacements - you can always remarry and you can always make new kids. Hardly anything to worry over. Dump the wife and move on. Shared custody is hardly traumatic.

Here's some good entertainment. The contest between Sickuvit and very old man is great. Why isn't the media covering this? Where's my popcorn?

The hearty handclasp is actually from W C Fields -- in the Bank Dick

Greg, I don't know where you are, but if I did I would personally go there to shake your hand. Thanks for simply stating what is so very true. Who cares what Tiger Woods does off the golf course? What we should be concerned with are the thousands of body bags being returned to us with no apparent end in sight, or the thousands of americans losing their jobs, then their homes. How about the largest national debt in history, and then our government thinking they can solve the national healthcare issue, when on the other hand social security is in jeopardy. Wake up, you bottom feeders and address what is really newsworthy.

Everyone believes that when Tiger returns it's only a matter of days until he's back on top of his game. Let me throw this out for consideration.
In today's world (pre-scandal), Tiger had a ton of money in endorsements. Tournaments were, to him, more for the glory then the dough. In fact, his tour winnings are just a fraction of his income. Given that situation, Tiger could take risks on the course and make some shots that nobody would have ever dreamed of. Naturally, they didn't go in just because of luck, there was a ton of skill there too.
Now, possibly, Elin says, "Hey Tiger, it's been fun, but see ya later you low rent dirt-bag.....I'm off to Sweden and, by the way, keep the money coming."
Tiger is losing endorsements quickly and, at the same time, his HUGE income.
Now a tournament is more precious to him because of the need for money (yes, I know he's loaded now, but who knows how much Elin would get----and rightly so).
He's still a great golfer, but now the pressure is on and maybe he's not as risky as before and his conservative approach costs him wins and, therefore, future endorsements.
I'm just saying.................

Your "Magic Organ" every dog out there has one and with just about as much control of it! My Father used a rubber after having four children, because that is how many he could afford to raise. ( doubt that you have only thought about getting laid. As for me I had a vasectomy after six children all of who are good clean citizens who have families of their own. They work and are reasonably well off. As an old man I lived through the "Big Depression" and I will be here to see the end of this one.
I have enough self control, and respect for my wife to look for someone else for a hour. (probably in your case it might only be five minutes.
Put your condom on your "magic Organ" and put it where the sun doesn't shine (no reason to spread STD's)

>Your "Magic Organ" every dog out there has one and with just about as much control of it!

Wow, your pea-sized, fetal alcohol syndrome affected brain almost read this right. Magic...as in sorcery, maybe? For a so-called christian you went right to dick humor a little fast for Fr. O'Pedophile's liking.

>My Father used a rubber after having four children, because that is how many he could afford to raise.
Unfortunately he didn't start early and consider what the world could afford in terms of your presence.

>( doubt that you have only thought about getting laid.
Ding ding ding...survey says? you win!

>As for me I had a vasectomy after six children all of who are good clean citizens who have families of their own. They work and are reasonably well off.
We all appreciate your help in keeping the earth overpopulated and with morons to boot. Please tell me you at least kept the genes in the family. Reasonably well off? Is that code for one paycheck from being on the dole or are they already there too?

>As an old man I lived through the "Big Depression" and I will be here to see the end of this one.
OK, I'm starting to doubt this as I'm pretty sure it was referred to as the "Great Depression" unless you are referring the period in your life before prozac was discovered. But lets assume you did live through it...well, odds might be a little long on you living through this one then.

>I have enough self control, and respect for my wife to look for someone else for a hour. (probably in your case it might only be five minutes.
I have no idea what you are trying to say here...are you sundowning? Five minutes! Whoa settle down there marathon man, but you need to get it up first.

>Put your condom on your "magic Organ" and put it where the sun doesn't shine (no reason to spread STD's)
Are you hitting on me? You were in the Navy weren't you sally boy...

Nice try. Douche.

On the dole? are you referring to your inability to hold down a job?
I own two homes(totally paid for) just have to pay the taxes.
All of my older children five, own their own homes and businesses.
They all have given me grand children.
I don't believe that you have the intelligence to have passed the test (as lenient as it is) to get into the military service, shame they would have made a man of you.
I didn't think that you would take anymore time than a dog after all that seems to be your model. Do you even ask their names? My dog at least sniffs first. still think your time limit would be five minutes even after a six pack.
I enjoy this, but I think it is possibly just baiting the mentally challenged.

To: Very old man $ sickuvit

Shut up!!! You two are like a couple of bitchy little girls.

>On the dole? are you referring to your inability to hold down a job?
Oh, do you not know what that means? I'll try to stick to monosyllabic common words...oops, too late! I am gainfully employed and doing just fine in the dollar amount, thank you.

>I own two homes(totally paid for) just have to pay the taxes.
You should own them at your age! Jesus, what did the house cost when you bought it, $1000? And by the way, your outhouse doesn't count as a second home...I don't care if your eldest son and family live in it.

>All of my older children five, own their own homes and businesses.
Having an RV in the back" and selling crystal meth does not count as owning a home and a business.

>They all have given me grand children.
When you say "gave"...are they theirs, or did they get them in trade for drugs?

>I don't believe that you have the intelligence to have passed the test (as lenient as it is) to get into the military service, shame they would have made a man of you.
Yeah...I'm sure my doctorate in chemistry is proof enough the military is WAY beyond my capabilities. If you are the measure of the man the military makes of people, shame on them. Thank god in truth I know otherwise regarding most military people. Did you even serve...KP doesn't count grandpa.

>I didn't think that you would take anymore time than a dog after all that seems to be your model.
This made me sad a little. Not in respect to me, but how you keep beating this point like a dead horse and how I expect more from you, but never get it. You know...like your wife.

>Do you even ask their names? My dog at least sniffs first.
I sniff too. Its called going down on a chick. I know it wasn't "hip" in your day, but things have changed. We ask if they want to now and make sure they have a good time. Oh and by the way, blacks have rights now too!

>still think your time limit would be five minutes even after a six pack.
Depends on the six pack...The Beast...no worries. Sixer of 120 Minute IPA...any man would be down and out. Lets step up our rips and try to step out of Fox TV and into High School, OK?

>I enjoy this, but I think it is possibly just baiting the mentally challenged.
Funny...thats exactly how I feel Corky. The difference is, my thoughts are dead on.

Shut up and either enjoy the banter or go put on a skirt.

very good reading

It must either be time for his nap or diaper change...maybe both.
