Ok, so what is wrong with this? As we can all see and understand "white men can't jump". The NBA is basically a black league because face it, African-Americans are better athletes! And it is not just basketball, it is football as well. An all white league simply gives us second stringers a chance to get some game time! Larry Birds are few and far between these days and for those who can play up to the caliber of those in the NBA do it. For those who wish to pay for tickets to the sub NBA its ok!! You are not racist in my book, you are acknowledging the superiority of the African-American athlete and choosing to support a league for the less fortunate.

That is, if you want a league to develop native american white athletes then that may be a good thing (I am african american) but then to criticize street ball culture, etc. this is where the racism comes in. If African Americans prefer to play street ball that should be fine, if europeans like the long ball so be it. Also black leagues, etc were started because people could not join the white leagues. On the topic of MLK Day and Robert E lee B-Day. In Alabama, Lee's B-Day was a statewide holiday for many, many years. In recent years, the powers to be decided to overlap the Lee holiday with the MLK. The Lee holiday has virtually disappeared. My kids kave no idea what it was/is.

Lee was never viewed as racist and never supported slavery. He was honored for being a defender of states rights and an iconic southern figure.

Seems like everyone needs history lessons here. The main reason there are many minority associations in this country, especially black ones, is because blacks and other minorities could no get into the whit dominated ones. Furthermore black colleges and schools don and can not exclude whites or other races from attending. As for a white basketball league; why? Did we not have that before?? please.

I'm a white male and I had two black male friends one when I was thirteen and the other when I was 19. They were two of the best friends that I ever had, however, I have also been around other black males that were more racist than any other white person I have ever met. Let's just face the facts on racism. Racism works on both sides of the fence but it seems like all you hear about is how the white guy/girl is always the ones that are guilty of racism, when in fact, blacks are just as racist, if not more. I think the difference is white people don't go crying about it or call the local news every time a black person commits some type of racist act. My mother was jumped by three black guy's at the local mall a few years ago. They took all her gifts, purse, and even knocked her to the ground. My mother was 62 at the time and was very tramatized over the situation. Guess what? Not a word was mentioned anywhere. I think if that would have happened to a black women, it probably would have made national headlines.

I have a problem with this as well, but should we also ban all black only hall of fames and the music awards for african americans and awards shows for just latin americans. These are examples of reverse discrimination. Spare me the crap of 300 years of oppression justifying these other affirmative action projects. Be successful on your own merit; so no to white only basketball leagues.

The most interesting thing about this league will be how they will decide who is Caucasian. Does a player have to be pure Caucasian or will they OK some minimum percentage of Caucasian ancestry? If they don't use genetic testing they won't be able to be sure who is Caucasian. And believe me, genetic testing is going to turn up a lot of interesting surprises! A lot of bozos who claim to be pure Caucasian are going to test positive for African and/or Native American blood that they don't even know they have because their ancestors chose to hide it. Might actually be a good way to end the racial purity myth.

First of all, Negro leagues existed because of segregation in sports. Once sports came out of the stone age and became integrated, there was no need for race-based leagues. Black organizations and clubs have risen out of a history of social exclusion, as opposed to simply not being good enough to play with whites.

Secondly, the big problem with a race-based league is to determine who is and isn't white enough to join. It's not as easy as it initially seems. The Caucasian race includes non-white groups such as Arabs, Persians, and Indians. Would they be allowed to join as well? If not, why the hell not? You're thus creating a league where the primary barrier is some arbitrary measure of whiteness. I'm sure that would violate a hundred laws if it were to do so.

If you desperately want whiteball, go watch European basketball. I'm not sure why this promoter feels such a need to subsidize the athletic dreams of crappy white ballers in America.

Also, stations like BET have arisen as a response to the lack of representation of blacks on TV. A WET wouldn't make as much sense, since whites are already well-represented (and in many cases, over-represented) on TV. Let us understand one thing. The bottom line here is money. The NBA, NFL, MLB, etc are all corporations. They are run by whites (some are Jews), the ownership is 95% white (some are Jews), and the television companies and advertising companies that help generate the revenue are run by whites (some are Jews). This is coming from a 19 year old African-American female who is optimistic & open to all races due to the fact that I was brought up to befriend anyone who I appreciated and not limit myself to color. When is a line drawn? There are several All Black Organizations that are very public in the fact that they are. They are very proud of and don't hide the fact that they are black only. Regarding the magazines and tv stations that you mentioned, those were starte in response to the lack of magazines and television shows which would feature people of color. Are they relevant now? Probably not since Ebony/Jet are losing money. BET is a joke that caters to the young African American community. A lot of African Americans over 30 don't watch it because there is no quality programming geared towards the older crowd. Nothing wrong with forming a league of your own I suppose. But, don't be afraid of competition.

How can you whine that BET or whatever "is not fair?" Most groups, universities, television stations, etc, that have historically served people of color began because of a legacy of exclusion and under-representation, policies that continue until this day.

What you fail to take into consideration darielmontezd, is that for many many decades, everything in America was all-white--sports teams, business organizations, schools, etc. The ad-vent of all black establishments was merely an attempt to have quality in these areas for black people. It was the only way for blacks to participate at all. To complain of all black(latino, asian, whatever)institutions is hypocritical considering how as recently as the 50's & 60's, blacks still weren't permitted access to many areas.

I have noticed several people stress that a double standard exists in the US because minority-only organizations exist and are not lambasted as racist. I think this is a valid argument and is no way racist. However, I would like to provide a counter-argument to this. Minorities, in any society, need organizations that highlight their identity so as not to be overshadowed by the identity of the mainstream culture. Without these organizations, many minorities face a kind of cultural anonymity in their own countries. As a black person born and raised in a predominantly black country (more than 95%), many expatriates and people of other races (white, Indian, middle-eastern) formed heritage clubs/organizations etc. I don't think that desire for personal/cultural identity can be understood until one belongs to a social minority. Hell, I didn't even really think of myself as black until I moved to the US. I used to be 'the tall guy', now I'm 'the tall "black" guy'.
Back to the point, the league organizer is clearly racist because he commits the fallacy of attributing undesirable attributes of players in the NBA ("players flipping you off... attacking you in the stands... grabbing their crotch") to black people in general.

True, you have BET and other all black entities. Think about why these all black organizations were formed and think about the context of their origins. They were born out of oppression. They were a necessity to give blacks an equal playing field.

Can that be achieved by starting a league that also includes hispanic, black, asian, etc. players? Is it necessary to exclude these groups in order to have a fundamentals based league? This league would not be born out of oppression or formed as a necessity to give white people an equal playing field. The founders can just as easily enforce a strict fundamentals code with mixed race players as they can with all white players. If its about the rules, then make it about the rules. Enforce the fundamentals, teach the fundamentals, and don't allow the play deemed unwanted. Excluding minorities is not necessary to accomplish that goal.

Who started the NBA? At one time it was all white, but it eventually allowed black players. However it never refused white players. As far as blacks being the better players in the NBA, that's true the way the game is allowed to be played. Street ball is what it is. If the rules were enforced correctly, that is no palming while dribbling, no hanging on or shoving, no 6 step moves to the basket, no hanging on the rim and doing chinups, then the black players would find the game very difficult to play.

If you want to watch fundamental basketball without the bells and whistles... watch the WNBA, yes an all-women's league does exist. i hope you take the time to read this because you just don't get it. The reason there is a BET is because there are so few Blacks on "mainstream" network TV. Count the number of Blacks and shows featuring Blacks on the networks and maybe you can see my point. It has gone so far out of whack that there is a show with a Black cartoon lead character but he is voiced by a white man. We can't even be the voice of our own characters. There are no white shows on BET, because if there were, there would be no room for Black shows. There already are White Entertainment Networks. They are called CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX.Just look for Black actors on these prime time shows and you will be looking for a long time. In the NBA, all players play by the same rules. White players are not held to a certain set of rules while Black players are allowed to run freely. White and Black players come up through the same system, playing highschool basketball and college basketball before making it to the NBA. The white kids are in the school, studying, getting an education, and being driven by there parents to make themselves someone someday. I really don't see the problem here. We already have the NBA which is over 90% black. Don't believe me? Check the facts. If there was any league that was 90% white there would be lawsuits saying this was illegal and a certain percentage of players must be black. Since the blacks dominate this league they are fine with it... Of course. In the end, who care if it's an all white league or all black league or midget league, whatever. What it will come down to is money. Whatever people are willing to pay for will be what matters. While we're deciding what is right or wrong, lets have an all educated league. There's nothing I find more upsetting than to hear of these guys being given multi million dollar contracts and that can't even read the contract they signed or spell their own name. Lets have a league where a proven 12th grade education is mandatory. Make them pass tests that prove they are educated before they get the right to make millions of dollars for putting a ball in a hole. Then again, maybe that's what they're creating by having an all white league anyway.

Why not start a league of secondarily skilled players, teach them to play strictly fundamental basketball without all that atheleticism and the white players will probably excell and dominate. Just as in the business and science world, all we have to do is set the wall at a point that they can't get over, around or under it, then our Caucasian Affirmative Action Program stays intact and we can keep up the belief that we are superior in all ways. Hi Woody, I have never joined any group but the military and I must say we were very prejudiced back when I came in, but a subtle prejudice although we made sure they knew it was happening. At one time I loved watching the NBA but not anymore its boring. Also there are some great white players that do not get the playing time that they should and something should be done about it. Those that think there should be a change support change with your feet and your remote do not go to the games and do not watch it. This is not true. In America people are raised being fed this same line all the time through the media that black people are better athletes; and they believe it too because noone questions it. If anyone questions it or they say anything their racist. Think about it. Only 12% of Americans are African/American. How is it possible that with millions more white people that in only certain sports that 90% are black. I doubt this league is started because "well, whites are just not as athletic." It is possible blacks are slightly better at b-ball because of their culture, but considering white men usually go 1-2-3 in the high jump at the Olympics most years, athleticism has nothing to do with this league. I'd love to see an all white league. I believe that white's have different style and rythym in basketball, that doesn't mix well with black players. Also, the NBA is dominated by blacks. So basketball fans have been shortchanged by the NBA. I also believe that there has been an element of racism in favor of blacks since the early 80's at all leves of coaching making it a more challenging environment for the white athlete than for the black athlete. I hope this league gets off the ground. I know it would get tremendous support. I've heard countless people say they stopped wathcing the NBA after Larry Bird retired. I don't wonder why.
